Black Bird/Slideshow of Vinnie

On October 29, 1982, after finishing a gig in Beaumont, Texas, my band Vince Vance & the Valiants was driving in our personnel vehicle up Highway 287 to Dallas. At the same time, in those wee hours of the morning, a young man was driving to work, to his job as an assistant produce manager at a Brookshire Brothers Supermarket. He had been up all night planning his wedding. He fell asleep at the wheel, veered into our lane and went head on with us. Two lay dead at the accident scene: the grocery clerk and my lead guitarist, Richard Arthur Heath, who had been sitting shotgun. In Texas, that's the front passenger seat. The rest of us were all hospitalized for fractures, broken bones and much worse.
Now begins the recovery, but I don't know if you ever really recover from tragedy. Though I have written so much about The Wreck, as we often refer to it, what can you actually say? It was an accident, a senseless tragedy. You try to place blame, but, really, who is there to blame? Sadly or unfortunately, such is life...
But is it sad or unfortunate? Well, of course, but with the words, "sad" or "unfortunate" is the underlying meaning that situation is not the norm and, perhaps, you can do something about it. You can write all the songs you'd like, but can you bring back a friend, a mother's son or a talented man, a budding artist who's life has ended before it really began.
As a person of assumed responsibilty and a self-flagelating Catholic, you blame yourself... even now I do, for every perceived wrong turn on the road of life.
"Blackbird" is the answer to the questions that I've asked myself, and God, so many times... WHY?
The three stages of life are represented, a baby who is looking to be taken of, a virile man who is seeking a woman and an infirmed person near death.
The blackbird, death or ill, stops by at each phase of our life. Very few people want "something black" in their life... but it is always there.
I lost everything in Katrina in 2005. It was a lot. You could say I had everything. My friends told me that my home on the beach in Waveland, Mississippi, and all my possessions were gone. Everything: my collection of paintings including a Dennis Piattoly, a Manuel Habe and a Dali, my father's crucifix fron the 16th Century, my mother's picture when she was 16 years old... just everything. But I had to go see myself. When I saw it, I fell to my knees. I wasn't sad nor did I ask why this time. I looked out at the beach. It was the same as it was 1000s of years ago, but when I turned inland the entire city had been washed away. I thanked God for letting me be privy to look into the past and, perhaps, see into the future when man may be gone.
I truly believe that the "bad" things are roses of wisdom handed to us by God. They are bark on our tree of life. We can accept them and the lesson or we can have them scar us and let that define us.
Now 25 years later, I stand here as proof that life goes on.

You're Such a Beautiful Girl

They say there are Art Appreciation courses you can take to learn to see beauty.
Well, I must have taken 'em and graduated summa cum laude. God has blessed me
with very special eyes. He who created Eve and Lilith allows me to see and
appreciate so much loveliness. Thank you!
There's so much beauty all around us... in the stars, in a flower, but there's
nothing more lovely to me than a woman.
A woman's beauty is usually deep and rarely superficial. Sometimes when I see a
lovely girl it actually takes my breath away.
Fortunately, I've spent my life in a blessed profession making people happy. It
has given me a rare perspective. As an artist, my job is to look deeply into
life. Appreciating beauty has brought me close to truth... and what John Keats
describes so aptly in "Ode on a Grecian Urn:" "Beauty is truth, truth beauty,
葉hat is all Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know."
Here is my tribute to a Grecian Urn, actually a Greek Goddess: "You're Such a
Beautiful Girl."
A lovely lady, T-mac, my webmistress created a slide show video that attends the
song. She was able to assemble a series of pictures of me with some lovely
ladies who I had the privilege to meet during my career.

Mary Medical Clinic
Vince Vance attributes his excellent health to the doctors of the Mary Medical
Clinic:

Dr. Charles C. Mary, Jr.
Dr. Charles C. Mary, III
Dr. Mignon Mary Hammel
"The Mary Medical Clinic takes all knowledge of medicine and health into
consideration when treating their patients. They believe in preventative
healthcare. I truly believe their regimen of vitamin C and fiber have
kept me youthful, energetic and alive over a stressful career that spans
almost four decades. I have trusted my life with them for 45 years. I know no
finer men nor medical professionals. Whether you are ill or just want to stay
well, trust the Mary Medical Clinic. I have... my entire life."

Advocare: They Build Champions
I am proud to say that I'm a celebrity endorser
of the scientifically created Advocare products.
I am a distributor of the fine line of Advocare health aids. Every day of my life I use Slam, ProsTect, Clear Mood, Joint ProMotion, Fruit & Vegtable Formula, several of the meal replacement bars including the Fruit & Fiber Bar, Breakfast Bar and the New Chocolate Nuggot Snack Bar.
My association with Advocare was thru my friend,
their late founder, health and marketing genius,
Charlie Ragus. His memory lives on in my heart.
Charles Ragus founded AdvoCare in 1993 with the
dream of changing people's lives, nutritionally
& financially. Charles chose the AdvoCare name
to communicate his commitment to Distributors:
He would be an advocate who cared for them.
Mr. Ragus was inspired to offer products that
would help people achieve overall wellness thru
a business model where people from all walks of
life could realize personal financial potential.
Today, President and CEO Richard Wright steers
Advocare towards even greater growth and success.
It is a joy to use and recommend products that really work for me and my 87 year old mother.
I would like to add that New Orleans Saints NFL
quarterback, Drew Brees, also endorses the fine
line of Advocare products.

Founder: Charles Ragus

I Got Stung Vince Vance & The Valiants
Originally from my album Volume One, "I Got Stung" was reprised on "I Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans."
It is me as a young guy. I wrote it for my then lead guitarist, the late Richard Heath. He played a trash lead that was so dirty, it shoulda been illegal.
Unfortunately, Richard was killed in our 1982 wreck. So, I sang it and Little Nickie Vance Manousos, our finesse lead played it like Richard would have... and did a killer job.
The song sports my show-off lyrics where I'm just having a great time playing with words. I am proud of the playful and sexy lyric. It would be great even today as a pop rock tune.
If you want a blast from the past, check out the video on You Tube. That's me trying to act sexy...
